Granite vs. Quartz: Choosing the Right Countertop

Ana Stone Journal

Granite and quartz are the two surfaces we’re asked about most. Both are durable, beautiful and long-lasting — the right choice depends on how you live in your kitchen.

Granite: one-of-a-kind natural stone

Granite is quarried natural stone, so no two slabs are alike. It handles heat well and, once sealed, resists everyday stains. If you love natural movement and want a slab that is truly unique, granite is a great fit.

Quartz: consistent and low-maintenance

Quartz is an engineered stone made primarily of crushed quartz bound with resin. It is nonporous, so it does not need sealing, and its pattern is consistent from slab to slab. In everyday performance, there is very little difference between quartz and sealed granite.

How to decide

Choose granite for natural character and heat tolerance; choose quartz for a uniform look and minimal upkeep. Bring a cabinet door to our showroom and we’ll place both side by side.
