Why Soapstone Deserves a Second Look

Ana Stone Journal

Soapstone (steatite) is a naturally quarried stone composed mainly of talc and other minerals.

Dense and stain-resistant

Although softer than many stones, soapstone is very dense and non-porous — more so than marble, slate, limestone and even granite. Liquids do not permeate its surface, which is why it is widely used in chemistry labs.

A living finish

Soapstone comes in shades of gray and develops a rich patina over time. It is a beautiful choice for kitchens, bars, sinks and fireplace surrounds.
